"To be more empathetic, to perceive more deeply what the people around you are feeling, this really is only the beginning of compassion. Because there is still this moral sense that we have to bring to light. There are times when we must resist the crowd and not let ourselves be drawn into this mutual reinforcement of anger and hatred and violence. We are called to make these kinds of moral judgements every day. And we're called especially to hold ourselves accountable."
